Old Navy's reputation for generous sizing is not folklore; it is in their published chart. Their men's Medium covers a 102-107 cm chest. The generic international Medium used by most size converters is 97 cm, and Old Navy's own Small (97-99 cm) is the size that actually matches it. In other words, an Old Navy men's M sits roughly where most brands put an L. The women's side is closer to standard at the small end — an Old Navy M is a 93-95 cm bust against a typical 89 cm — but the gap widens as sizes go up: their L covers 99-104 cm where a generic L is 97 cm. If you are ordering from Old Navy for the first time and you normally wear a Medium, the honest advice is to measure your chest or bust and read it off the chart above rather than trusting the letter.
