Keep your shirt on. Victoria's Secret takes fittings over your clothes. They recommend wearing a lightly lined or unlined bra, because sports bras and thick padded styles distort the measurement — but they will fit you whatever you arrive in. This is the one place a VS fitting and a standard at-home measurement genuinely diverge, and it is worth knowing before you compare the two numbers. Victoria's Secret instructs you to take the band just above your bust, "right about where the straps meet the top of the cup". Most of the industry — and the calculator at the top of this page — takes the band from your underbust, snug around the rib cage directly beneath the breast tissue.

Because the tape sits above the fullest part of the chest rather than below it, the VS method usually returns a larger band number and, since the cup comes from the difference between the two measurements, a smaller cup letter. That is the classic "I was fitted at 36B but I'm actually a 32DD" story. If your in-store VS size and your calculated size disagree, this is almost always why — neither tape reading is wrong, they are answering different questions. Trust the try-on over either number, and use sister sizes to move between them without changing cup volume.

Band too tight? Go up a band and down a cup (34C → 36B). Cup overflowing? Go down a band and up a cup (34C → 32D). Both fit the same amount of tissue.
