Check and fix your file
Official requirements
The numbers below come from the official notice. Each source is quoted as we read it.
-
Photo
JPG20–200 KBPassport-size, recent colour photograph in jpg format saved with the file name 'photo'. Plain white background; frontal view of the full face, head in the centre, both ears visible, eyes open, natural expression; the face must cover at least 75% (3/4) of the photo area; the photograph must not be signed. The current portal instructions state no pixel or cm dimensions for the photo (the retired OTR FAQ's 350-1000 px figure is shown below, with the other readings). The uploaded photo is face-matched against the live photograph (see the live capture row below).
-
Photo (live capture)
Taken live on the portalMandatory in addition to the uploaded photo, but no file is supplied: it is captured live with the web camera of the current device, or by scanning the QR code on screen and using a mobile device. Good lighting, face clearly visible. If it does not match the uploaded photo the applicant cannot proceed. No file spec is stated.
-
Signature
JPG350–500 × 350–500 px20–100 KBTriple signature: sign three times, one below the other (vertically), on plain white paper (no lines or colours) in black ink with adequate gap/space between them, and scan all three into ONE image containing exactly three signatures, properly oriented (not rotated or upside down). Save as jpg with the file name 'signature'. The instruction PDF says 'Image dimensions: 350 - 500 pixels' without naming width or height; the portal's in-app note says the height and width of the signature image must be between 350 and 500 pixels, so this page uses 350-500 for both. The in-app note also says 'three identical signatures'. Applications with signature files that do not meet the prescribed specifications will be rejected.
-
Document
JPG20–200 KBConditional: only when the candidate does not use Aadhaar verification and picks an alternative photo ID ('Step 4: Alternative ID selection (If Aadhaar is not used)'). File name 'id_card' (the Aadhaar / Photo ID instruction PDF runs the words together: 'id_cardin jpg format'). Listed as jpg, 20KB-200KB in the document-upload table. The retired OTR FAQ said Photo-ID must be PDF (see the other readings below).
The notice also says:
- Also required (not handled by this tool) [UPSC 'Instructions for uploading documents' (31 Jul 2025), table rows 1, 2, 4, 5, 6; cells joined with ' | '; each document is asked only in the profile named in the second column] Name change Affidavit / Gazette Notification (As applicable) | Identity Profile | pdf | 50KB–300KB | name_change; Matriculation Board / Equivalent Certificate | Matriculation Profile | pdf | 50KB–300KB | board_certificate; Caste Certificate | Social Category Profile | pdf | 50KB–300KB | caste_certificate; Disability Certificate | Disability Profile | pdf | 50KB–300KB | disability_certificate; PwD / PwBD recommendation certificate | Disability Profile | pdf | 50KB–300KB | pw_recommendation. [Social Category Profile, EWS case] must upload a copy of your EWS certificate. The uploaded file should be named "caste_certificate".
- ESE 2027 notice (16.09.2026), Appendix-IIA item 4, p. 51 (https://www.upsc.gov.in/sites/default/files/Notif-ESEP-2027-Engl-160926.pdf) states one looser 300 KB cap for both files. This page uses the portal's stricter 200 KB (photo) / 100 KB (signature) maxima, which satisfy both photograph and signature duly scanned in the .jpg format in such a manner that each file should not exceed 300 KB each and must not be less than 20 KB in size for the photograph and signature.
- Legacy OTR FAQ Q44 (https://upsconline.gov.in/upsc/OTRP/candidate/faq.php; retired module, not applicable to CSE 2026 per the portal's General Instructions p. 2) states 300 KB and 350-1000 px limits Each of the scanned images of the Photograph / Signature should not exceed 300 KB and must not be less than 20 KB in size. The resolution of Photograph and Signature are 350 pixel (Width) * 350 pixel (Height) minimum and 1000 pixel (Width) *1000 pixel (Height) maximum.
- Legacy OTR FAQ Q43 (same retired page) says the Photo-ID must be PDF; the current portal says jpg, 20KB-200KB The images of Photograph / Signature should be scanned in the “JPG/JPEG” format & Photo-ID should be in "PDF" format only. No other format is acceptable.
- Older document (https://upsconline.nic.in/caf/assets/PDF/Instructions%20for%20uploading%20documents-new-2.pdf, 31 Jul 2025, p. 4) describes a single signature; the later 4 Feb 2026 PDF, the CSE 2026 notice and the in-app notes require three Sign on a clean white paper using a black pen. … Scan your signature.
We show these readings but check your file against the numbers in the cards above.

What we check — and what we don't
-
File type. The file you download is a JPG.
-
Pixels. The width and height in pixels, when the notice states them. We scale the picture, and crop it when the notice sets both sides, and never stretch it.
-
File size. The size in KB, kept inside the notice's limits however a KB is counted.
We do not check what the picture shows, such as the background, the face position, the date of a photo or whose signature it is. A portal may check these too, and only the portal can accept or reject your upload. We are not affiliated with Union Public Service Commission: always confirm the numbers on the official notice.
How to fix your file
- Pick what you are uploading, then choose or drop your JPG, PNG or WebP file (up to 25 MB). It is read on your device.
- Press Fix my file. We scale, crop and compress it until it fits the official numbers above.
- Download the fixed copy and upload it on the official application portal.
