Official requirements

The numbers below come from the official notice. Each source is quoted as we read it.

  • Photo

    JPG200 × 230 px20–50 KB

    Notice wording: "Dimensions 200 x 230 pixels (preferred)"; file between 20 and 50 KB ("not more than 50kb"). The pixel size is only labelled "preferred" and the notices do not say which number is the width, so it is read as width x height. The notices also print the photograph as 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm without axis labels, so this page does not use a centimetre size. Recent passport-style colour photograph on a light-coloured, preferably white, background; "Caps, hats and dark glasses are not acceptable." JPG or JPEG ("The image file should be JPG or JPEG format").

  • Signature

    JPG140 × 60 px10–20 KB

    Notice wording: "Dimensions 140 x 60 pixels (preferred)"; file between 10 and 20 KB. The pixel size is only labelled "preferred" and the notices do not say which number is the width, so it is read as width x height. Sign on white paper with a black ink pen; a signature in CAPITAL LETTERS is not accepted. If the signature on the exam-day attendance sheet or call letter does not match the uploaded one, the applicant is disqualified. JPG or JPEG.

  • Thumbprint

    JPG240 × 240 px20–50 KB

    Left thumb impression on white paper with black or blue ink. Notice wording: "Dimensions: 240 x 240 pixels in 200 DPI (Preferred for required quality)", i.e. 3 cm x 3 cm (Width x Height); "File type: jpg / jpeg"; file size 20 KB - 50 KB. Without a left thumb the right thumb may be used (IBPS and SBI). IBPS adds further fallbacks (a finger of the left hand, then of the right hand, then the left toe) and then says the candidate should specify in the uploaded document the name of the finger and whether it is the left or right hand, or the toe.

  • Document

    JPG800 × 400 px50–100 KB

    The hand-written declaration, uploaded as an image. Notice wording: "Dimensions: 800 x 400 pixels in 200 DPI (Preferred for required quality)", i.e. 10 cm x 5 cm (Width x Height); "File type: jpg / jpeg"; file size 50 KB - 100 KB. Must be in the candidate's own hand, in English, black ink on white paper, not in CAPITAL LETTERS. IBPS treats a declaration written by anybody else or in another language as an invalid application, and lets candidates who cannot write get the text typed and put a left thumb impression below it. IBPS text (after "I," and a blank for the name): "(Name of the candidate), hereby declare that all the information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required." SBI text is the same plus "Date of Birth ______" after the name and a closing sentence: "The signature, photograph and left thumb impression is of mine".

  • Photo (live capture)

    Taken live on the portal

    Captured live in the application, not uploaded from a file: "In addition to the above photograph, candidates will also be required to capture and upload their live photograph either by using webcam or mobile phone." The portal offers "Capture Photo" (webcam) or "Click here to Scan" (scan a QR code, then take the picture on a mobile phone); the picture is uploaded automatically. No size is stated. The notices' Don'ts include a small-size photograph and coloured glasses or sunglasses/cap.

The notice also says:

  • Also required (not handled by this tool) IBPS only (PO/MT-XVI Annexure III, CSA-XVI Annexure IV): two more uploads that are PDF-only, not images: the "SSC/ SSLC/ 10th Standard or Equivalent Certificate" and, if applicable, the certificate "mentioned in Clause J (ix)" (PO) / "Clause K (ix)" (Clerk) for persons with specified disability having less than 40 % disability and difficulty in writing. Notice wording: "Document must be in PDF format. Page size of the document to be A4. Size of the file should not be exceeding 500 KB." SBI's advertisement lists no PDF upload (photograph, signature, left thumb impression and hand-written declaration, plus the live photograph).

What we check — and what we don't

  • File type. The file you download is a JPG.

  • Pixels. The width and height in pixels, when the notice states them. We scale the picture, and crop it when the notice sets both sides, and never stretch it.

  • File size. The size in KB, kept inside the notice's limits however a KB is counted.

We do not check what the picture shows, such as the background, the face position, the date of a photo or whose signature it is. A portal may check these too, and only the portal can accept or reject your upload. We are not affiliated with Institute of Banking Personnel Selection and State Bank of India: always confirm the numbers on the official notice.

How to fix your file

  1. Pick what you are uploading, then choose or drop your JPG, PNG or WebP file (up to 25 MB). It is read on your device.
  2. Press Fix my file. We scale, crop and compress it until it fits the official numbers above.
  3. Download the fixed copy and upload it on the official application portal.
